24.01.2025 (25.03.2025)Question: Which Coating is used at waffle makers and crispy cone irons from Cloer?
FAQ-2288
Answer: Cloer uses two different PPG coatings: Quantum and Eclipse.
The non-stick effect is provided by silicone polyester, but without PTFE.
Question: What is the difference between Quantum and Eclipse?
Answer: Quantum is a single-layer coating system and Eclipse is a double-layer, particularly sugar-resistant coating system. Eclipse does not discolor even under high loads and is therefore particularly suitable for continuous baking of large quantities. But she also is sensitive to scratching and requires careful handling.
Eclipse is currently used in the waffle makers Cloer-0189, Cloer-1639SR, Cloer-1898, Cloer-1898XL, Cloer-1459 (from production 2025) and the crispy cone irons Cloer-0289ESR and Cloer-2898EF.
Question: Do the coatings contain harmful substances?
Answer: No, the coatings do not contain any PFAS (therefore no PTFE, PFOA, PFOS), no BPA and no nickel.
Until mid-2024, a Xylan coating was used instead of Quantum. Xylan contained PTFE, which is completely harmless for the temperature range used. A large number of our product range has already been converted to Quantum and is therefore PFAS-free. However, there may still be remaining stocks with the Xylan coating on the market. How long does it take for my meal to heat up in the Menu Box?
Answer:
Menu for 1 person (approx. 400 g)
- at room temperature: 1 measuring cup, approx. 12-14 minutes
- at room temperature with meat or fish: 1.5 measuring cups, approx 19-21 minutes
- at refrigerator temperature: 1.5 measuring cups, approx 19-21 minutes
- at freezer temperature: 2.5 measuring cups, approx 31-33 minutes
Menu for 2 persons (approx. 800 g)
- at room temperature: 2 measuring cups, approx. 26-28 minutes
- at room temperature with meat or fish: 2.5 measuring cups, approx 31-33 minutes

The amounts of water, as well as the corresponding heating times, are approximate.
Distribute the meal evenly in the lunchbox and break up large pieces, as they will take a longer time to heat through.
You can increase or decrease the amount of water as desired. Half a measuring cup will change the heating time by about 6-7 minutes.
Do not fill more than 3.5 measuring cups.
19.04.2022 (18.06.2022)
FAQ-2342
Question: How can the coating be protected during baking?
Answer: In order to protect the coating, the waffle iron / crispy cone iron should not run without any dough. Unplug when not making waffles or crispy cones.
However, if empty operation is necessary, e.g. when heating up before the first waffle, the controller should always be set to the lowest level.
As soon as the control lamp and possibly the acustic signal (not present on all models) indicate that the temperature has been reached, fill in the dough and turn the regulator up to the desired setting (usually between 3 and 4).
Preheating at a higher level puts a strain on the coating and, after a longer period of time and in connection with dirt (e.g. grease), can even lead to damage and a reduction in the non-stick effect.
After baking in the still warm appliance, carefully dab the grease residue with a paper towel and then place two paper towels between the baking plates. A clean coating lasts longer.
Do not use harsh cleaning agents or hard cleaning rags such as scouring pads.
22.07.2021 (20.09.2021)Question: What is the reason of internal hinge at waffle and crispy cone irons?
FAQ-2341
Answer: Due to the internal hinge, the fat from the dough flows from the upper baking plate into the lower baking plate and not into the hinge or down on the outside of the appliance.
In addition, cleaning is easier thanks to a smooth outer surface.
20.07.2021 (18.09.2021)
FAQ-2234
Question: How can the grill surface be cleaned?
Answer: The power plug must be pulled out before cleaning. We recommend a soft, damp cloth to clean the grill surface. Barbecue residues are best removed when they are still warm.
All parts should not be cleaned with hard pot sponges or steel wool. The grill surfaces are dishwasher safe.
We do not recommend cleaning in the dishwasher after every grilling process, but only when it is heavily soiled or at the end of the season.
The connection cable / plug must not come into contact with water and should only be cleaned with a damp cloth.
Before using the grill after cleaning, please ensure that the socket is completely dry.
15.06.2021 (14.08.2021)Question: Condensation can be seen in the control lamp when baking. Is that normal?
FAQ-2339
Answer: Yes, it is quite possible that steam condenses on the control lamp when baking and small drops are visible. This is not a problem, however, since the live wires and the lamp are insulated.
15.06.2021 (14.08.2021)Question: Does the Type-534 coffee maker have a permanently lamp in timer mode?
FAQ-2340
Answer: When the timer is activated, the display stays on. If the timer is deactivated, the display goes into sleep mode after one minute.
In addition, when the timer is activated, the clock symbol flashes and the time alternates between the current time and the set timer time.
14.06.2021 (13.08.2021)Question: What material are the baking plates of the waffle and crispy cone irons made of?
FAQ-2335
Answer: The baking plates are made of an aluminum alloy and are coated with a non-stick coating on most appliances.
14.06.2021 (13.08.2021)Question: An electrical wire is visible in the hinge. Is there something defective or is there an electrical problem?
FAQ-2336
Answer: With some waffle and crispy cone irons you can see the ground wire in the hinge in the colors green-yellow. Unlike the other wires, this is not additionally insulated because it has a protective function. All metal parts of the device that can be touched, e.g. the baking plates and the metal covers, are connected to the grounding line and can be touched.
The grounding line ensures that in the event of an insulation fault, the current can flow away and the risk to the user is minimized.
14.06.2021 (13.08.2021)Question: Are PTFE, PFOA, BPA or nickel contained in the non-stick coatings of the raclette grill and the fondue set?
FAQ-2337
Answer: The non-stick coatings of the pans of Type-642 and the aluminum grill plates of Type-643 and Type-644 contain PTFE in the form of micropowder, which is not critical as no PFOA is used.
The pans of Type-643, Type-644 and the pot of Type-667 are free of PTFE and PFOA.
BPA and nickel are not used in any of the coatings.
14.06.2021 (13.08.2021)Question: How many ml is the minimum capacity for the water kettles?
FAQ-2338
Answer: The minimum capacity for most kettles is 500ml (0.5 liters).
Exceptions:
Type-489 and Type-460 min 250ml
Type-499 min 200ml
Type-495 min 800ml
With the exception of Type-490 and Type-470, all kettles have a marking for the minimum amount of water.
The kettles work with a high output to heat the water as quickly as possible. Some of the water is converted into steam and the kettel switches off as soon as there is enough water vapor. We therefore recommend that you do not fall below the minimum fill quantity.

FAQ-2319
Question: What certification marks do Cloer products have?
Answer: The Cloer brand deliberately focuses not on certification marks, which are always issued from outside (test laboratories), but on ensuring the safety requirements themselves. The safety requirements of the applicable standards (EN 60335) are only the minimum requirements for our products. In addition, we are constantly developing our own requirements and tests that guarantee quality, especially in terms of safety, durability and performance.
With the CE mark, we as a manufacturer assume responsibility for compliance with all relevant European directives. The CE mark can be found on the rating labels of our devices.
Of course, we also have our work verified from independent laboratories. This includes above all the VDE, with which we have approved many of our devices over many years of close cooperation. Other recognized laboratories are also used. However, we deliberately do not use certification marks on our rating labels as we are first and foremost responsible for our devices.
Question: Do Cloer products have a GS mark?
Answer: The "GS" mark is a purely national mark which the Cloer brand has deliberately refrained from using.

FAQ-2310
Question: Which grinder setting is suitable for which brewing method?
Answer: For espresso, we recommend a fine grind below level 4.
Filter coffee machines usually require a medium grind. We recommend 7-9.
To grind coffee for a French press, the coarse setting greater than 16 is suitable.
Question: The coarsest setting is not sufficient for some types of preparation. Is there a way to adjust the coffee grinder?
Answer: Very coarse coffee is required for the Karlsbader jug, which goes beyond level 18. But that's not a problem. A white line is printed to the left of the coarsest setting. That means you can turn a lot further and get a much coarser coffee. It is important that you do not turn over the line (unless you want to remove the container). Make sure that the coffee powder container can easily be overfilled.
The coarser the coffee is ground, the more ground coffee you will get in the same time. With the same number of cups, the grinder grinds more coffee powder for French press than for filter coffee. If this does not suit your taste, you can set the number of cups control higher or lower.
Question: The finest setting on the coffee grinder is not fine enough. Is it possible to use a washer to lift the cone in order to get even finer ground coffee?
Answer: Just as you can set a coarser grind beyond level 18, there is also the option of turning beyond level 1 all the way to the stop, in order to achieve even finer ground coffee. A conversion of the mill using a washer is currently not planned. Please note that, depending on the bean size, if the setting is very fine, the beans will no longer fall into the grinder. Then the engine runs idle and the engine noise is louder than usual. Then turn to a somewhat coarser setting.
04.02.2021 (05.04.2021)Question: How can the conical grinder be cleaned so that the set grinding degree is maintained?
FAQ-2259
Answer: Residues in the grinder of the coffee grinder cannot be avoided and you should therefore clean your grinder regularly. For safety reasons, please pull the power plug before cleaning. You can loosen the cap nut of the grinding cone with a size 8 spanner. (Attention, left-hand thread: You have to turn clockwise to loosen the cap nut.) It is necessary to use a screwdriver to counteract one of the wings below the cone.
Caution: Do not injure yourself on the sharp blades.
Below the cap nut there is a serrated washer and a normal washer. Below is the cone and below the cone is the wing ring, which can also be removed. After this short disassembly, you can remove the coffee grounds from all parts. Please clean with the supplied brush or a damp cloth. When assembling, please make sure that the wing ring and the cone are correctly positioned.
When using the finer grind settings, the channel between the grinder and the ground coffee container can clog faster and you should clean the device more often.

FAQ-2326
Question: Do the kettles contain nickel?
Answer: Our kettles contain nickel in the stainless steel alloy and are therefore not completely nickel-free.
The release of nickel is kept relatively low because
- all kettles have a hidden heating element. (The nickel release is significantly higher with open heating elements.)
- some kettles are made of plastic or glass, e.g. Type 411, 412, 442. In these devices only the heating plate is made of stainless steel containing nickel. The release of nickel is therefore significantly lower than with devices that are made entirely of stainless steel.
Tips for people allergic to nickel:
The release of nickel is highest with new devices and after descaling. For this reason, the boiled water should not be used the first few times at new products and after decalcification. It is also advisable to dispose of any remaining water in the water kettle before using it again.

FAQ-2240
Question: Why the required water amount for cooking smaller Quantity of eggs is higher than water amount at higher Quantity of eggs?
Answer:
The reason is related to the condensation area. The more eggs that are cooked with the same degree of hardness, the more cold surface they form.
Because of this, more water condenses on the surface of the eggs. The condensed water runs back onto the heating bowl and is boiled again there.
So if there is only one egg, less water will condense. Since the resulting water vapor escapes and cannot be boiled up again as condensation, you need more water from the start with fewer eggs.
The display on the egg boiler's measuring cup is only a guide and varies depending on the egg size and temperature of the eggs.

Question:
How does baking with one control lamp work?
Answer:
Some series of waffles (type 162), double waffles (type 13) and crispy cone irons (type 261) only have the red control lamp. This always lights up when the device is heating.
Baking: After you have inserted the plug into the socket, the red control lamp lights up and the device heats up for a few minutes. When the lamp goes out, pour in the batter and close the baking plates again. The baking phase now begins, although the appliance does not start heating immediately after filling in the dough, as the baking plates are still quite hot. Approx. 20-40 seconds after filling in the dough, the red control lamp lights up and the device heats up. When the control lamp goes out, you can remove the waffle and pour in new batter.

Question:
My coffee machine shows E4. What do I have to do?
Answer:
If the swivel filter insert has not been closed or has not been opened at least once after the last brewing process, the coffee machine displays error E4. This is to prevent the water or coffee not flowing into the jug if the swivel filter is not closed. The device also checks whether the swivel filter was opened at least once after the last brewing process in order to replace the coffee powder. If this has not been done, the display shows a filter symbol. This symbol disappears as soon as the swivel filter is opened for at least 4 seconds. Also make sure that the filter insert is closed well (click sound). If the error message does not go away, pull the plug for at least 5 seconds, check the swivel filter element and restart the device. If the error cannot be rectified, please contact our service at:

FAQ-2315
Question:
Why does the cup setting not work with a fine grind? I have to choose a significantly higher number of cups than I actually need.
Answer:
The regulator for the number of cups is designed in such a way that with the medium grinding degree 7-9 (recommended setting for filter coffee machines) approx. 5-7g coffee powder is ground per cup. With a finer grind you get significantly less coffee powder (grind Setting 1 results in approx. 2-3g per cup) and with a coarser grind you get significantly more (grind Setting 18 results in approx. 7-9g per cup). Simply turn the cup regulator up or down to achieve the desired amount of coffee.
The amount of coffee powder is also influenced by other factors, such as the type of coffee and moisture content.

Question:
Can you grind herbs, nuts and grains in the coffee grinder?
Answer:
Yes.
The use of the grinder as a coffee grinder is restricted in the current operating instructions.
This statement is out of date. Many users have been using the mill for various other purposes for years.
We have therefore extended our manufacturer's warranty for such use.
With hard and large ingredients (e.g. nuts, sugar cubes) the mill should be operated in pulse mode, i.e. a few seconds on, a few seconds off, .... Through the lid you can observe the degree of grinding and stop the grinding process when you are satisfied.
You can grind other ingredients up to 30 seconds at a time.
Oily ingredients sticks together if the grind time is too long. Grind shorter and fill less.
You can also use the grinder ART-7580 and ART-7589 to prepare pesto. No liquids should be filled in with ART-7579.
Very hard substances (e.g. hard kernels, ice cubes) and too moist food (e.g. apples, onions) are not suitable.
Please note: The mills are designed for short-term high performance at very high speed. Please do not exceed the intended maximum runtime of 30 seconds and give the motor enough time to cool down.
